In 1973, Randal King returned home from two tours in Vietnam. While in the military, Mr. King served in the United States Navy as a Seabee. Building from his experience in his construction battalion, Mr. King decided to start his own company with the purchase of a single dump truck. From a lonely dump truck, he began hauling materials for construction companies throughout the upstate of South Carolina. By 1977, Mr. King had begun paving driveways on the side each weekend. At first, these driveways were paved by hand. Over the course of the next year, Mr. King acquired a paver and a roller from local junk piles. Using his diesel mechanic experience from the Navy, he was able to repair each piece of equipment and return them to daily use. |
